“If you garden, you’re getting some low-intensity physical activity most days, and you tend to work routinely,” says Buettner.
He says there is evidence that gardeners live longer and are less stressed. A variety of studies confirm this, pointing to both the physical and mental health benefits of gardening.

Whether you’re sick of throwing out food that’s long past its expiry date, or are working on preparing a food stockpile in case of an emergency, consumables that practically never spoil can be a huge asset to your household.
This article lists non-perishable food items that not only have long shelf lives, but if taken care of properly, these foods stand a chance of never going bad within your lifetime.These ideal survival foods will of course need to be stored the right way in order to retain their practically never-ending shelf life.
The absolute best place to keep a food stockpile is in a dark, cool, and dry spot, free of humidity, moisture, direct sunlight, and extreme temperatures.
Keeping consumables in an air-tight container, or better yet, vacuum packed, is also very important to increasing shelf life.
Although many non-perishable survival foods may change flavor and/or texture over the years, they remain edible and perfectly safe for consumption over indefinite periods of time. Use your senses to judge whether or not food with long shelf life has expired. If it smells off, has become too soft, or has developed mold, it’s better not to eat the item.

Great Peach Crop in North Carolina for 2019
After several hit-or-miss years, peach growers across the state are celebrating what is shaping up to be a solid peach growing season. “Consumers can expect peaches to be in good quantity and quality this year,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler.
“Many growers began picking in early June with plans to continue through the end of August.” Unlike surrounding states, most of North Carolina’s peaches are sold directly to consumers at roadside stands and farmers markets. In fact, consumers can find peach orchards in about two-thirds of the state’s counties.
Troxler encourages consumers to check with their favorite peach grower for availability and timing of their favorite varieties.
To celebrate the season, the department will host Peach Day events at the State Farmers Market in Raleigh on July 11 and the Robert G. Shaw Piedmont Triad Farmers Market in Colfax on July 12. Both events run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and feature a peach recipe contest, free samples of peach ice cream and an appearance from the N.C. Peach Queen.
Peach lovers also can enjoy the N.C. Peach Festival in Candor July 19 and 20. The 23rd-annual event includes a parade, music, carnival rides, food vendors and lots of fresh, local peaches.

City Apologizes, Pays $151K to Agent, Buyer for False Arrest
Cincinnati city officials have settled with the real estate agent and prospective buyer who were handcuffed and accused of breaking and entering a listing via lockbox.
Real estate pro Jerry Isham and his client Anthony Edwards had filed a lawsuit in federal court last week over the wrongful arrests that occurred on Nov. 17, 2018.
The men were arrested after a retired Cincinnati police officer had called 911 to report that “two black males forced the front [of the home] open.” The home was on the market for sale in the West Price Hill neighborhood.
The men allege that police came to the house, ordered them out by gunpoint, and handcuffed them. The City of Cincinnati has now issued an apology. Cincinnati City Manager Patrick Duhaney said in a statement: “The city regrets this extremely unfortunate and unnecessary situation. Mr. Isham and Mr. Edwards did nothing wrong. … We sincerely apologize.”
The city has agreed to pay the men $151,000 as part of a settlement. Duhaney also added that “voluntary training” of his employees with the local board of REALTORS® would be made available to avoid such situations from happening in the future.

Real Estate Update July 2019
The days are getting hotter, but June was nicer than most. Calls and emails have continued at a brisk pace, and we’re seeing many residential sales in Kingman, Lake Havasu City, and all of Mohave Valley/Bullhead City. It’s become a sellers market for homes, as we’re seeing an influx of new residents.
Meanwhile, land sales have picked up. The prices are still extremely attractive, but little by little the values are disappearing, and we’re seeing the beginnings of price appreciation in the Yucca area. The sellers here could sure use some relief.
It’s a mixed blessing though. We love our solitude & the remoteness, but it is welcome to see so many new faces. Shhh, don’t tell too many people!
